Just a girl after all

beauandro4“Maybe you had to leave in order to really miss a place; maybe you had to travel to figure out how beloved your starting point was.”

As a little girl, I dint know what was outside the little-warm-comfortable shell I lived within, what did people mean when they talked about the “world outside”. To me, that shell – was my world! My family and friends I grew up with – my comfort zone. I do remember though desperately longing to be a part of the bigger world, remember wanting to embark that road and see it myself. That road is scary at times, its adventurous, filled with up and downs, and many opportunities, all that and bittersweet. Lately, I have been feeling pangs of being far from home- its easy to feel homesick and miss the people, miss the things you were used to, and to be honest at this point – I miss being away from my stylist. ( hey.. I am a girl, allright ! ) I am in desperate need of a cut and can’t have anyone else touch my hair { he’s a genius ! } Guess- its time to make a quick trip (a 7000 miles one)

What I am really loving these days is my new waist pouch, so practical – lets you have your hands free for (ahem!) tugging your hair that’s bothering you so much lately. I also love the fact that this Beau and Ro bag serves a dual purpose as a clutch. Love the patchwork and colors on this one and absolutely adore this one – perfect for an evening out. Now if I can have each one from their collection and if someone can come up with a 2 hr flight to Bombay, I’d be all set!

Spring Teaser

There’s something very precious yet suspicious about a warm afternoon in the middle of March, like a gift you received from an estranged relative with no upcoming birthdays or anniversaries. You wonder why this gesture, is this the harbinger of a selfish act that will follow ( another week of unbearable cold in Boston ) or is this truce and all will be glorious now onwards. Whatever the reason be, you cant wait to tear open the package and enjoy what’s inside. This sunday was just like that.  Even though it was a good 45F and mighty windy, the city looked like it was hosting a fair and had become a melting pot of people escaping their stuffy heater-heated houses to breathe in the fresh air. I grabbed the most coveted real estate in the square, the sole snow dusted bench and indulged in my favourite past-time – weaving stories about people passing by. I saw a husband pushing the stroller and the wife juggling grocery bags as they argued over their lunch plans. And then I started thinking about marriage {yes – if not forcefully shaken from my trance –  I can spend the entire day thinking about nothing of consequence }

This outfit is my version of the happy marriage between winter and spring. Dark heavy sweaters and something light, something pastel to offset that. Isn’t that what marriage all about – complementing each other’s dark side and bringing the best out of each other? I have a soft spot for colored tights and always reach for colors that stand out instead of the vanilla blacks and greys. When I discovered, We Love Colors, I found my one-stop shop for tights. They have tights in every color you can think and with great prices – you only want to get them all ! I loved it when random people on the street stopped me and complimented the pop of blue and told me how ready for spring I looked ! What can I  say – If winter has come, Spring won’t be far behind !

Pastel on my mind

 I want this winter to be over now ( if not sooner ).  It is still pretty cold here in Boston, but I am now craving soft, pastel pieces that actually are great for transitioning into spring and pair well with the winter wear as well . What I desperately need is this powder blue leather jacket – perfect combination of femine and fierce. Here are some of my favourites – what do you have your heart set on ?

The Happy Shirt

Once there was a king of a peaceful kingdom who was plagued by a serious and mysterious pridacament called “unhappiness”. He lost all interest in the state of affairs and melancholia had taken over the kingdom. Physicians, astrologers were called from far lands but none of the remedies they suggested helped overcome the looming unhappiness. One day, a  passerby heard of the problem and suggested that, if the king could be given a shirt of a happy man – that would be the panacea of all his problems. Desparate devout followers began their search to find that happy man whose shirt would be the answer to their flailing king and his dooming kingdom.

First they found a man who looked extremely happy. They approached him and asked him if there was anything he wanted that would make him really happy. He expressed that he needed money to build a bigger house for his family. They moved on. There were many who looked happy but were looking for something additional that would make them really happy. Almost having given up, they heard a farmer singing to himself while plowing his land. They followed him to his house and overheard him telling his wife how happy he was with the crops this year and how blessed he felt to have his family with him every day. They went inside his tiny, crumbling house. Torn by his impoversished conditions, they asked him if he wanted anything that would make him really happy. In an instant response, he said he had  everything that he would ever need in his life. They beamed, celebrated and satisfied with their discovery, asked the man to give them one of his shirts. The happy man however so poor – did not have a shirt !

There’s always something we seem to want in life. New job –  promotion –  new car – new pair of shoes – a raise – another vacation – always something. I am a strong believer of not being satisfied with what we have, because that might stop us from pursuing further. But, we have to appreciate what we have, where we are, celebrate the small successes and find happiness in little things. That’s not optional but a must !

Honestly, I think all the king needed was some bright colored clothes or a shopping trip. Retail therapy sure has proven to be an expresso-shot for an instant dose of happiness. { ask the girls ! } With spring around the corner, I am already getting all jazzed up about wearing florals and colorful pieces.

P.S : The mister’s take on the happy shirt’s tale was – Get Naked & Be Happy ! { **big eye roll**  you see what I am dealing with !  }
