Karvachauth ( Indian Festival ) Celebrations

Is it just me or is the air around , festive? This week has been all about celebrations of Karva Chauth.

You can read all Indian festival –  significance, story and the rituals here.

Although, my family does not traditionally celebrate this festival – there’s no way that the Bollywood buff in me wouldn’t go all in on this one 🙂 Last weekend , one of my girlfriends  had a Mehendi/Henna party at her place. The excitement there was nothing less than that at a wedding household. Put 20 girls in a room and ask them to get ready for a celebration – now would you expect anything less 😉

Yesterday my hubby & I celebrated Karva Chauth. Its like the Hindu version of Valentine’s Day , if you ask me. Married women spend the entire day ( until moonrise) without food & water – but the feast later more than makes up for it. And honestly , I could fast every once in a while , if it gives me an  excuse to dress-up traditionally and get gifts from the hubby 🙂

Here are some pics of me in an Indian sari and of the rituals that are performed on this occasion. Hope you enjoy them !

( clearly not a pro at sporting a sari 🙂 )
thali ( plate filled with symbolic items ) used to perform the rituals

offerings to the moon and then to the moon of our lives ( aka – the man who brings us gifts )

Nothing like being overdressed … or may be there is ? :)

Friday evening – the hubs texted me that he was going to be late from work but asked me to be ready by the time he got home . The gear in my head instantly shifted to “date-night-dressup-mode” ! I was ready waiting with the camera (for him to get to his job as my personal photographer 🙂 ) when he got home.He warned me that I might a “bit” overdressed for where we were going and my smirkish response was – there’s nothing like too rich or too dressed-up !

Well – I ate my words when we drove into a drive-in theater #feelingfoolish
Imagine everyone sprawled on lawn chairs or lounging in their cars – in PJs and here I was in my stilettos #superangry
But the big screen , pizza , beer , the convertible top down was all so magical that I hardly cared about anything while I curled up on the seat and ended up watching a movie and a half 🙂 Damn – he even got blankets ! It was THE perfect cliched date night where we watched movies under the stars 🙂 #smitten

Urban Outfitters Dress , Jimmy Choo Clutch , Guiseppe Zanotti Heels – similar

Today marks the beginning of a 10 day Indian festival which is in full swing at my home back in Bombay. Needless to say – I am terribly homesick. Need some much needed love and affection this way !! 🙁

Have a fabulous week everyone !!

Treasure Hunt ~

While just scouring the net for a specific shoe , I stumbled upon this site : The Hunt

I absolutely love the brains behind this “shopping-as-a-treasure-hunt” site and trust me – it is very addictive.
You post a picture of an item you are looking for and an entire community of people try to help you by suggesting where you can find your swags. That can be really helpful at times !

Do you think you’ll be placing a treasure on the site to be found or helping someone with their treasure hunt 🙂
